Evaluation & Consultation
You will undergo the recommended tests under the care of the Pelvic Floor Center® staff. After testing is complete, results will be discussed with you if you were referred for testing and consultation or forwarded to your referring physician if you were referred for testing only evaluation. If you are undergoing a testing only evaluation, your referring provider will then review your results and discuss your treatment options at a separate visit. Please contact your referring provider to schedule this appointment.
Anorectal Physiology Testing
- Anal Manometry and Sensory Testing - Measures the strength of the internal and external sphincters, coordination of the muscles of the pelvic floor, and assesses sensations in the rectum. Used to assess constipation, fecal incontinence, to rule out Hirschsprung’s and many other pelvic floor conditions.
- Cine Defecography - A test using fluoroscopy that evaluates rectal emptying and relaxation of the pelvic floor. Visualizes rectocele, enterocele, and rectal prolapse.
- Anal Ultrasound - Images sphincters and tissues surrounding the anal canal. Used to assess fecal incontinence, fistula, abscess, sphincter injury (post-delivery/surgery), and pain.
- EMG Recruitment - Assess patient’s ability to voluntarily contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles. Used to assess relaxation of the pelvic floor in constipation.
Ultrasound Evaluation
- Anal Ultrasound – Images sphincters and tissues surrounding the anal canal. Used to assess fecal incontinence, fistula, abscess, sphincter injury (post-delivery/surgery), and pain.
- Rectal Ultrasound – Images the layers of the rectal wall. Used for evaluation of rectal polyps, staging of rectal tumors and also evaluation of enlarged lymph nodes. Is also used for follow-up surveillance after treatment for rectal tumors or advanced polyps. Advanced 3-D Ultrasound technology is also available. This is often performed under sedation at a surgery center as the procedure can be uncomfortable when performed in the office.
Peripheral Nerve Evaluation (PNE)
Determines whether sacral nerve stimulation for the control of accidental bowel leakage or lower urinary tract dysfunction is appropriate for a given patient. A temporary device is used and, if successful, surgery to implant a permanent device would be the next option.

Late Policy
New patients must complete the necessary paperwork prior to their first visit using the online patient portal. If the paperwork delays your appointment start time, your appointment might be canceled at the discretion of the provider.
If a patient arrives past their scheduled time and/or do not have their paperwork completed, their appointment might be canceled at the discretion of the provider. This is to ensure that the patients who arrive on time do not experience delayed waits to see their provider. If you arrive late, you may be asked to reschedule. If you choose to wait, we will try to minimize your wait time as best as possible, however we need to provide timely care to our other patients as well.
